I’ve never been active or interested in the political process in our country.  I’ve voted a few times in presidential election years — mostly based on gut feelings about the candidates.  But I never felt that my little vote made that much difference on a national level.

From time to time, I’ve casually debated whether a Christian should even vote, not to mention be actively involved in politics.  Rather than be a true matter of the conscience, it was probably just a cover for disinterest.  Because democracy is the will of the participating majority, I’ve always believed that our presidents reflect our culture rather than influencing our culture to change to imitate their beliefs.  To initiate change in our culture, then, is not about electing the right president; instead, it’s about changing individuals.  That’s one reason I’ve had a rather non-chalant attitude toward national politics, in particular.
