“For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just.” – Gen. 18:19 These were God’s words about Abraham, but I believe this is the example set for every father. Since he has given me children, he has chosen me to direct them, lead them, teach them to do what is right and just. I want to be the father of a great “tribe” of people who follow and honor the Lord. Today, there are at least 20 people in this “tribe.”
I want to be a grandfather who is active in the lives of his grandchildren. And I don’t just mean attending events and cheering them on. I mean being an active, Godly influence on their lives.
Dakota is a prime example of a child growing up in moral poverty. The child is raising himself, and has no boundaries in his mother’s house, and Toni and Rex have no chance to provide any real guidance in the few days he spends with them each month. After school, he spends his time alone watching whatever he wants on TV. His mother now has another man living there, and I think this is about the fourth one since Dakota’s been born. His TV viewing is restricted when he’s with Rex and Toni, but he still spends the majority of his time playing video games.
